Mysore-Style Ashtanga
Mysore-Style Ashtanga signifies that you will be taught an empowering, self propelled, traditional sequence of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. It is designed to detoxify the body, align the muscular-skeletal system and purify the nervous system. This is the method of Sri K Pattabhi Jois, of Mysore, India, hence where the nickname comes from. No previous experience with this style or any other style of yoga is necessary. The Instructor works closely with beginners and ongoing students, to guide them through the sequence, little by little over time. The idea is to build a steady and consistent yoga practice that is appropriate for each individual. There is a 2+ hour window of practice time available each class. (Currently offered between 630am – 9am) this does not mean that one must engage in a two and a half hour practice. since this is not a led class, where everyone in the room moves in unison, we do not have to arrive and start at the same time. So quite practically, you can arrive at a time that suits your schedule best, generally allowing for 45, 60 or 90 minutes or more to complete your practice. (please note 45 minutes -1 hour is a plentiful and rewarding amount of time for beginners as well as those with full schedules that otherwise could not attend). Newcomers are welcome to stop in and observe a class before attending any time, free of charge. Routine attendance is highly recommended as you will get the most out of it. (minimum of 2 classes/week is ideal) Practitioners with ongoing practices are welcome to drop in any time.
Mysore-Style Ashtanga Led Primary Series
Led Primary Series (Level 2-3). Explore Ashtanga yoga in Led form. Class works in unison exploring the full primary series as taught By Sri K Pattabhi Jois. This is a highly invigorating vinyasa series that is meant to work in tandem with the Mysore-style classes, and not appropriate for complete beginners to yoga. Those students with some experience in other class styles are welcome as an exploratory, and may participate up to their comfort level and can modify where necessary. This class’ focus is on the series as a whole. Less time is allotted for breaking down specifics on individual postures, and more emphasis is given to the Vinyasa, or the fluidity of movement, and connection of breath within the various postures. The Mysore class is the place to learn the nuances of each posture, whereas, this Led Primary Series class is the place to refine, or clarify, the sequence as a whole.
